The only land route to and from the Island is a Swing Bridge that
was constructed in 1913. Today the Swing Bridge still swings open
to allow boat passage, with the opening and closing only takes a
few minutes. It certainly is a sight to see considering it is the
only swing bridge in Canada still in operation.
Manitoulin Island can also be reached using the MS Chi-Cheemaun
passenger/car Ferry. The convenient connection between the Bruce
Peninsula and Manitoulin Island has an array of departure and arrival
times to accomodate your needs.
Manitoulin Island is home to six Ojibways Reserves, with the Wikwemikong
being the only "unceded" reserve in Canada. Every year
an amazing, colourful display of culture is presented in a Pow Wow
by each of the Reserves. You'll see drummers, singers, dancers,
art shows, craft sales, native food sales and much more at each
Pow Wow. It is an experience you won't want to miss.
Bridal Veil Falls, on the north side of Manitoulin
Island, is one of those places that photographs picture perfect,
no matter what. Spend the day relaxing at the picnic tables or taking
a shower under this magnificent water fall.
The Cup and Saucer Trail, is
located roughly 20 minutes from Providence Bay. It a unique hiking
experience which offers a panoramic view of over 35 miles from the
250 foot high cliff lookouts.The entire trail is approximately 4
miles in length and takes about 2 hours to complete.
